New Solar Panel Installation Ceremony @ Family Promise of Lawrence
As part of Good Energy Solutions’ yearly giveaway project that donates solar panel systems to deserving Douglas County nonprofits, the Family Promise shelter, located at 200 Mt Hope Ct, now has a fully operational solar array that helps to offset the cost of the building’s monthly electricity bills.
“We’ve been giving solar systems away for many years, but this one is particularly special,” said Malcolm Proudfit, CEO of Good Energy Solutions. “This solar installation will help Family Promise allocate more of their resources to accomplish their extremely important mission.”
For families with literally nowhere else to go, Family Promise can provide a safe, trauma-informed, and low barrier temporary shelter to mitigate the trauma of unsheltered homelessness, especially for children. The goal of the shelter program is to provide the shortest amount of stay possible and quickly connect families to a longer-term housing solution, utilizing case management and community support.
“This generous donation will continue to be a gift long into the future of FPL by offsetting the cost of electricity for years to come, allowing us to put that money into direct costs of serving families. The whole team at Good Energy Solutions has been a joy to work with and we appreciate their desire to support local nonprofits in this way,” said Brenda Wahl, Executive Director of Family Promise of Lawrence.
The Solar Giveaway program was introduced in November of 2016 as a way to thank nonprofit organizations and to give back to the community of Douglas County. Applications for the Solar Giveaway program were received and reviewed by Good Energy Solutions to determine which building/property was best suited to benefit the most from the solar energy system. Factors included, but were not limited to: roof orientation, structural integrity of the building, and property shading. Nonprofits like The Willow, Van Go, and the Sunrise Project have all benefited from the Solar Giveaway program. Good Energy Solutions will soon open up applications to Douglas County nonprofits for another solar giveaway.
